The department is headed by a Director who leads a team of experts (research fellows). The key objective of the Department is to facilitate training courses on democracy, political culture and development. It will also promote democracy issues in Nigeria and beyond through training, advocacy, networking, action-oriented research, publications and documentation
Christopher Ochanja Ngara is the Ag. Director, Department of Democracy and Governance at the National Institute for Legislative & Democratic Studies (NILDS), National Assembly, Abuja. He holds a PhD degree in Political Science from Benue State University, Makurdi. He is a specialist in the legislature and foreign policy. He has coordinated several national and international engagements for NILDS, including Election Observation in several general and off-season elections. His research interests include Foreign Policy, Women in Politics, Election and Party Politics, Legislative Studies, State-Society Relations, and Politics and National Development. He has published several research articles in local and international peer-reviewed journals.
